RoboMagellan - Self Driving Car
Throughout high school, I worked on a 1/8th scale self-driving car for the Robogames competition "Robomagellan." Mentored by IBM software engineer Pete M., the team took two victories during my time. We placed second my freshman year under the leadership of Juan A., and then 3rd place my Junior year under the leadership of myself and my good friend Akira H.. I headed the mechanical side of the robot, while he headed the electrical side. Starting from scratch to preserve the old robot, we created Monty 3. It was named after Monty Python, as was tradition. Using a combination of Python, Arduino, and Processing, all code produced for the robot was done under a group coding effort involving everyone in the team. We would project the code up onto a whiteboard and work on it at the same time, each of us adding ideas as they came to us. We were the only high school to compete in this branch of Robogames, which featured other competitions such as the televised BattleBots. As it was an international competition, we beat numerous other teams, such as the Indonesian National Robotics Team, to claim our second and third place spots.
Here is a video of our second placing run my freshman year.
